5 Brilliant Ways to Sound-Proof Your Room

5 Brilliant Ways to Sound-Proof Your Room

Not everybody has the focus of a sage. Some people, even in their prime 20s and 30s, have the attention span of a 5-year-old. So, working or sleeping while your little one watches TV on a high volume or your spouse has a catch-up with friends in the living room, is next to impossible. The only way you can get through the day (or night) with all the noise at home is to use sound-proof mechanisms in your room.

Sound-proofing is not restricted to single rooms alone but can be taken up for the entire house. This includes blocking sounds from within the home and outside too. While you can always take professional help to deal with your noise issues, here are a few DIY tips that could let you sound-proof your home:

  1. Pad the Walls

Noise within the house is mostly created by sound reflecting around the room and projecting it to a much higher volume. One way to deal with this issue is to pad the walls. You can either take the help of sound-proofing experts for complete padding, or simply use curtains around the perimeter of the room. If you are not worried about aesthetics, you can always hang a mattress foam on the wall to prevent reflection of sound.

The vast expanse of space within the gated area and large community spaces are few of the many bonuses you can enjoy while living at HM Indigo.

  1. Create Faux Built-ins

Sound also travels from one room to anothe through walls. While the ideal thing to do is increase the thickness of the wall, the same is not always possible, especially when you are trying to make the most of the space available. In such cases, you can place a large bookcase with its back stuck to the wall to create a faux built-in.

HM Indigo, our latest project is located between the very busy Bannerghatta and Kanakapura Road, but once you step into your home, you can rest assured that you won’t hear any noise from the outside.

  1. Add Rugs

The chances of sound reflecting around the home is high if you have minimal furniture and no floor carpets. So, to balance the space, add a thick rug with a thick rug pad on the floor so that the dense fabric can absorb the sound waves.

Though noise is a common problem in many homes, the same cannot be said about HM homes. Our precision engineered HM homes do not let noise seep through from neighbouring homes or outside weather conditions. We happened to strike a conversation with one of the residents at HM Grandeur, Spoorti Chandran, about the same. Here’s what she had to say: “Having lived in busy localities in Bengaluru, finding peace in the middle of the day to focus on my art was a tough task. All I’ve ever wanted to do is move to a tranquil space. I found that with HM Granduer. I have no complaints whatsoever about noise from neighbours or outside traffic sounds.

  1. Add Art

Hanging wall art, tapestries, and softer art takes up the function of padded walls as well as faux built-ins. While it can prevent reflection of sound waves, it can also stop noise conducting through the wall.

Added to this is the spaciousness of the home of HM Indigo that allows each member of the family to have a quiet time of their own to study, work, or take important calls.

  1. Use White Noise

If you live in a rented apartment that does not have sound-proofed doors, windows, and walls, the best option you have is to create white noise to drown the sound. The simplest way to do this is to tilt a table fan towards the sound-producing wall so that you can focus on your work or get a good night’s sleep.

A home is a place you should feel comfortable in. You should not let the troubles of noise bother you day in and day out. If noise issues are consistent in your current home, consider upgrading to a better place where you would face no such issues.
